Cocula Mexican Restaurant

The salsa bar keeps things spicy - or medium, or mild - in Laurel Park

The salsa guide helps you avoid burning your tongue off. Or it helps you burn your tongue off, if that's your thing.

There's no such thing as too many Mexican restaurants, and when you've got several to choose from like we do in Henderson County a good strategy is to skip over the usual tacos/burritos/enchiladas section if you can and study the "Especialidades" or "Specialties" menu to see how the cocinero ("chef") wants to get creative.

“We sat out on the nice dog-friendly patio and started studying the options, of which there are many before you even get in to that big salsa bar inside!”

That's what Leslie and I did last night when we met our friends Elisa and Michelle at Cocula Mexican Restaurant in Laurel Park. It's not far from their house so they're basically regulars,

and sure enough they were already chatting away with the friendly owner by the time we arrived. We sat out on the nice dog-friendly patio and started studying the options, of which there are many before you even get in to that big salsa bar inside!

Leslie is usually eager to get two things and share but she was oddly silent on the topic this time, and I didn't bring it up because I knew I wanted a whole plate of the specialty Creme Enchiladas with the chicken and mushrooms to myself so I didn't remind her. But it turned out she ordered first and that's what she wanted too, dang it, and I felt like in the spirit of investigation for Explore

Hendersonville we should in fact get two different things. No problem, the next item on the menu is the Hawaiian Enchiladas with chicken, bacon and pineapple, which I've had before and are awesome! (And we did share, and the Creme Enchiladas were great too!)

How To Find It

Cocula Mexican Restaurant is easy to find, right on Highway 64 in Laurel Park just outside Hendersonville on the way to Brevard. It's close to some other fun stuff including Jump Off Rock and Lazy Otter Outfitters.
