You know what makes fried chicken even better? Donuts! And vice versa.
There's plenty of good-tasting, healthy food in the world. Few of the healthy things to eat are made of fried chicken and donuts, but many of the good-tasting things are, and that happens to be where local favorite HenDough Chicken & Donuts has decided to focus.

We usually try to err on the side of healthy, but sometimes you just have to go with tasty, especially when the weather is lousy as it was on the Saturday morning when we recently visited HenDough. I was even late meeting Leslie there because I got stuck in some minor flooding nearby, but that just meant she was able to order for us so the bear claw was already waiting for me!
HenDough is the project of a husband-wife team who are former chefs at the Biltmore Estate, which of course has a bit of a snooty air that is totally absent at their new restaurant. You're greeted in the front by the big chalkboard menu and the colorful display of donuts in the giant glass case. After you order they'll give a number for anything you ordered from the kitchen.
We've been a few times and we always seem to do the same thing, try a different donut or
two but always include the "Smothered Chicken Biscuit" as the main item. I've never been for lunch, but I have a feeling I'd probably still get it then, since they serve breakfast whenever they are open. I've been tempted by the "Donut French Toast" each time, at some point I'll give in and try that too. I'll probably still get the smothered chicken biscuit, though, and maybe try not to eat anything else that day.
