Why "undiscovered"? Until the opening of Lazy Otter Outfitters in 2016, paddling on Henderson County's stretch of the popular French Broad River wasn't easy. From the Blantyre put-in near the Transylvania county line to Westfeldt Park near the airport was 17 miles with no other easy access points. But with the opening of Lazy Otter in Horse Shoe and a new public access in Etowah, Henderson County now has some of the best and easiest paddles anywhere on the river!

Even so, when you're paddling the Undiscovered French Broad, you'll feel far removed from the hustle and crowds on the Asheville stretch of the river. Here, it's not unusual to have the river all to yourself, sharing it only with the regal Great Blue Herons, the playful otters and the other critters who call it home.
