A walk in the woods combined with a visit to a museum
The Kellogg Center in the Horse Shoe area is a favorite place for a walk among locals, but not too many visitors seem to stumble on it even though it's one of the more unique spots for a close-in hike through the woods for people anywhere in the Hendersonville area.

The 50-acre property, once a lavish private summer residence, is owned by UNC-Asheville and was used for many years by its Center for Craft, Creativity and Design before that center
was relocated in 2013 due to budget cuts. The property has other uses now, but the legacy of its artistic past is the Perry N. Rudnick Public Art and Nature Trail, which winds through the property behind its small compound of buildings.
The nature part of the trail is beautiful, with bridges and paths making their way through meadows, across streams and into woods. But the art makes for a particularly unique stroll. Some of the pieces are more abstract than others, and in some cases nature seems to be working to reclaim them, but it's fun to turn a corner and come across a cement and steel representation of a giant fern emerging from the ground or an artful trail bench.
The trail is very dog friendly, but remember it's always a good idea to keep your dog on a leash, and bring a doggie bag!
How to Find It
The best place to park for a walk on the trail is the lot on Rugby Road, just west of the intersection with Broyles Road. The main lot to the Kellogg Center is gated and often closed, but the Rugby lot is always accessible.
